INTERVIEW: Hanne Klintøe leads Aabenraa’s bold leap into PtX innovation
 Date: 10.06.2025
Aabenraa Kommune is making a name for itself in Denmark’s green transition, and at the heart of this momentum is Hanne Klintøe. Recently interviewed by DJØF Publication, the new Head of PtX Development shares her position and approach to steering one of the country’s most ambitious efforts to integrate renewable energy into industrial and municipal systems.
Hanne Klintøe came to the municipality from the private sector, drawn by a unique political commitment to green innovation. Now reporting directly to the municipality's chief executive, she works autonomously to attract Power-to-X projects and ensure their benefits ripple outwards. That means repurposing wastewater as technical water and harnessing surplus heat for homes and industry.
A new technical water company is being established under the municipality's utilities company, Arwos, to deliver ultraclean water to the two PtX hubs, Kassø and Padborg. It’s a rare circular solution that supports industry while protecting local waterways and the region's two fjords. The work is attracting national and international interest as Aabenraa becomes a front-runner in renewable energy integration.
Hanne Klintøe also points out that smaller municipalities are now setting the pace in climate action. With a new website on the way and strategic backing in place, Aabenraa is not just reacting to change but helping to define what a future-proof, green local economy can look like.
